Advantages
They are robust and simple in construction.
The deflecting torque produced is greater than that of electrodynamic type.
Since all the coils in the instrument are stationary, there are no electrical connections to the moving parts.
A wider scale extending upto 360° is available.
Disadvantages
errors are introduced due to eddy current and hysteresis loss in the iron parts.
The calibration of these instruments is affected by supply frequency, voltage and waveform.
They are less accurate than the electrodynamic type
