Definition of "Access Time" |
The difference in time between when data is requested and when data is delivered. The time lapsed between a given command and when the function is performed. The time for the [disk drive] access arm to reach the desired track and the delay for the rotation of the disk to bring the required sector under the read-write mechanism. / In a computer, it is the time interval between the instant at which an instruction control unit initiates a call for data or a request to store data, and the instant at which delivery of the data is completed or the storage is started. / In a telecommunications system, access time is the delay between the start of an access attempt and successful access. Access time values are measured only on access attempts that result in successful access. In a computer, it is the time interval between the instant at which an instruction control unit initiates a call for data or a request to store data, and the instant at which delivery of the data is completed or the storage is started. / Balanced Amplifier is the one in which there are two identical signal-handling branches operating in phase opposition, with input and output connections balanced to ground. / the total time needed to retrieve data from memory. For a disk drive this is the sum of the time to position the read/write head over the desired track and the time until the desired data rotates under the head. (LW) |
