Definition of "Aliasing" |
In A/D conversion, the Nyquist principle states that the sampling rate must be at least twice the maximum bandwidth of the analog signal. If the sampling rate is insufficient, then higher-frequency components are "undersampled" and appear shifted to lower-frequencies. These frequency-shifted components are called aliases. / An effect that occurs when an analog signal is sampled digitally at a rate that is less than twice the signal frequency. See Nyquist Sampling Rate. In any technology or process involving sampling a signal, e.g., an electrical signal or (a series of images of) a moving subject; processing, storing, or transmitting representations of the samples; and replicating the original signal from the representations: the production of artifacts as a result of sampling at intervals too great to permit faithful replication of the original signal. / In signal processing and related disciplines, aliasing refers to an effect that causes different signals to become indistinguishable when sampled. It also refers to the distortion or artifact that results when the signal reconstructed from samples is different from the original continuous signal. / In signal processing and related disciplines, aliasing is an effect that causes different signals to become indistinguishable or aliases of one another when sampled. It also refers to the distortion or artifact that results when the signal reconstructed from samples is different from the original continuous signal. / Blocked-Grid Keying are the key in view 'A' shorts cathode resistor R1 allowing normal plate current to flow. With the key open, reduced plate current flows up through resistor R1 making the end connected to grid resistor Rg negative. / (1) in signal processing, distortion introduced in a digital signal when it is undersampled. In all digital systems the signals should be filtered before they are sampled to eliminate signal components with frequencies above the Nyquist frequency, |
