Definition of "Asynchronous Communication" |
Communication in which no clocking information is passed between stations. / In telecommunication, asynchronous communication is transmission of data, generally without the use of an external clock signal, where data can be transmitted intermittently rather than in a steady stream. Any timing required to recover data from the communication symbols is encoded within the symbols. A notable exception is the RS-232 port, and some derivatives, which are asynchronous, but still have an external clock signal available, although not commonly used. / In telecommunication signaling within a network or between networks, an asynchronous communication signal is one that is transmitted at a different clock rate than another signal. (Plesiochronous signals are almost but not quite in synchronization - and a method is used to adjust them - and synchronous signals are those that run at the same clock rate. / Data bandwidth, or digital bandwidth is a measurement of bit-rate of available or consumed data communication resources expressed in bits per second or multiples of it bit/s, kbit/s, Mbit/s, Gbit/s. |
