Definition of "balanced mixer" |
A mixer, which may be made of discrete components or formed in stripline or waveguide, in which the local oscillator breakthrough in the output is minimized and certain harmonics suppressed. The contribution of local oscillator noise to the receiver's overall performance is also reduced by such a mixer. / A phase frequency detector prevents a false lock condition in PLL applications, in which the PLL synchronizes with the wrong phase of the input signal or with the wrong frequency. / a nonlinear 3-port device (two inputs, one output) used to translate an input signal’s frequency component either up or down the frequency spectrum by generating the sum and difference of two or more frequencies present at its inputs. The three ports are termed RF (radio frequency), LO (local oscillator), and IF (intermediate frequency). |
