Definition of "Bit Rate" |
In a bit stream, the number of bits occurring per unit time, usually expressed in bits per second. The number of bits transmitted per second. The speed at which bits are transmitted. / In telecommunication and computing, bit rate is the number of bits that are conveyed or processed per unit of time. / The gating level is based on the input level, ignoring the setting Circuit that permits automatic gain control to function only during short time intervals. / (1) a measure of signaling speed; the number of bits transmitted per second. Bit rate and baud are related but not identical. Bit rate is equal to baud times the number of bits used to represent a line state. For example, if there are sixteen line states, each line state encodes four bits, and the bit rate is thus four times the baud. |
