Definition of "Bleeder Resistor" |
A resistor used to draw a fixed current. Also refer to the dictionary of Resistor Terms. / Bleeder Resistor is a resistor placed in parallel with a high-voltage supply for the purposes of discharging the electric charge stored in the power source's filter capacitors or other components when the equipment is turned off, for safety reasons. A bleeder resistor is usually a standard resistor rather than a specialized component. / Ground loop electricity, an unwanted electrical current that flows in a conductor connecting two points inadvertently having different potentials. Ground loops are a major cause of noise, hum, and interference in audio, video, and computer systems. They can also create an electric shock hazard, since ostensibly "grounded" parts of the equipment, which are often accessible to users, are not at ground potential. |
