Definition of "Boiling Point" |
The temperature at which the maximum vapour pressure of the liquid is equal to the external pressure. The temperature at which the liquid boils freely under that pressure. / The exact temperature at which a liquid begins to boil or changes to a gas (i.e., vaporizes). The boiling point of a liquid decreases with increasing altitude, and increases with pressurization. The coolant in a modern radiator/ coolant system can be as high as 260°F (127°C). The temperature at which the vapor pressure of a liquid equals the absolute external pressure at the liquid-vapor interface. |
