Definition of "Buffer" |
An IC that isolates one circuit from another, as in a 7404 or 74244 Octal Buffer, [TTL vendors]. A voltage amplifier used between the oscillator and power amplifier. An allocation of memory space for temporary storage. A component or circuit that compensates for a difference in data transfer rates and data processing rates [a FIFO for example]. / A machine used to rasp the old tread from the tire. / (1) a temporary data storage area in memory that compensates for the different speeds at which different elements are transferred within a system. Buffers are used when data transfer rates and/or data processing rates between sender and receiver vary, for instance, a printer buffer, which is necessary because the computer sends data to the printer faster than the data can be physically printed. |
