Definition of "calibration" |
The graduation or confirmation of the graduation of an instrument to enable measurements in definite units to be made with it. Thus for example the deflection of a meter can be calibrated to read the current causing the deflection. / Adjustment of a device so the output is within a specified range for particular values of the input. / The comparison of transducer voltage outputs against the outputs of a reference standard. / (1) the procedure of characterizing the equipment in place for a particular measurement set-up relative to some known quantity, usually a calibration standard traceable to the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST). |
