Definition of "Choke" |
A coil of low resistance and high inductance used in electrical circuits to pass low frequency or direct components while suppressing (or choking) the higher frequency undesirable alternating currents. / An inductor used to impede the flow of pulsating dc or ac by means of self-inductance. A choke is designed to have a high reactance to a particular frequency. Common-mode chokes are used to protect from EMI. High frequency chokes may be called ferrite chokes or choke baluns. RF chokes normally have air core, while low frequency chokes have ferromagnetic iron cores. [Choke Manufacturers] / A version of a passive two-terminal electronic component called an inductor which is designed specifically for blocking higher-frequency alternating current (AC) in an electrical circuit, while allowing lower frequency or DC current to pass. / inductor used to oppose the flow of alternating current. |
