Definition of "circuit breaker" |
A mechanical switching device capable of making, carrying, and breaking currents under normal conditions. Also making, carrying for a specific time, and automatically breaking currents under specified abnormal circuit conditions, such as those of short circuit. It is usually required to operate infrequently although some types are suitable for frequent operation. / A device that can be used to manually open or close a circuit, and to automatically open a circuit at a predetermined level of over current without damage to itself. / Circuit breaker is an automatically operated electrical switch designed to protect an electrical circuit from damage caused by overload or short circuit. Its basic function is to detect a fault condition and interrupt current flow. Unlike a fuse, which operates once and then must be replaced, a circuit breaker can be reset either manually or automatically to resume normal operation. / A monostable multivibrator is an electronic circuit used to implement a variety of simple two-state systems such as oscillators, timers and flip-flops. It is characterized by two amplifying devices are transistors, electron tubes or other devices cross-coupled by resistors or capacitors. The name multivibrator was initially applied to the free-running oscillator version of the circuit because its output waveform was rich in harmonics. / (1) a circuit breaker is a device that makes and breaks the electrical contact between its input and output terminals. The circuit breaker is capable of clearing fault currents (tripping) as well as load currents. The circuit breaker consists of power contacts with arc clearing capability and associated control and auxiliary circuits for closing and tripping the breaker under the required conditions. |
