[DES] A cryptographic algorithm for the protection of unclassified computer data and published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Federal Information Processing Standard Publication 46-1. / It is an encryption, method that uses an algorithm for private key encryption, in which the sender uses the same private key as the recipient uses to decode it. / Data Encryption Standard is a previously predominant symmetric-key algorithm for the encryption of electronic data.
