Definition of "Dielectric" |
Non-conductor of electricity. An insulator. Substance in which an electric field gives rise to no net flow of electric charge but only to a displacement of charge. / An insulating (non-conducting) medium. A substance in which an electric field may be maintained with zero or near-zero power dissipation, i.e., the electrical conductivity is zero or near zero. An insulator; a term applied to the insulating material between the plates of a capacitor. Any insulating medium that intervenes between two conductors. A material that, having the property required to establish an electric field, is recoverable in whole or in part as electric energy. / Any electrical insulating medium between two conductors. The medium used to provide electrical isolation or separation. / (1) a medium that exhibits negligible or no electrical conductivity and thus acts as a good electrical insulator. |
