Definition of "Discriminator" |
A circuit in which amplitude variations are derived in response to phase or frequency variations. The part of an FM receiver that extracts the desired signal from an incoming FM wave by changing frequency variations into amplitude variations. / In distributed computing, a discriminator is a typed tag field present in OMG IDL discriminated union type and value definitions that determines which union member is selected in the current union instance. Unlike in some conventional programming languages offering support for unions, discriminator in IDL is not identical to selected field name. / a circuit whose output voltage varies in magnitude and polarity in direct proportion to the difference between the input voltage and a standard signal. A discriminator that converts phase deviations at the input to a linearly proportionate variation in output voltage is called a phase discriminator and is used in FM detection. |
