Definition of "Distortion" |
An undesired change in waveform. Distortion is a term that describes abnormal wave shapes. / Any unwanted change between an input signal and output signal. An undesired change between a transmitted signal and the received signal. Read more on Distortion. / Distortion or warping is the alteration of the original shape or other characteristic of something, such as an object, image, sound or waveform. Distortion is usually unwanted, and so engineers strive to eliminate distortion, or minimize it. In some situations, however, distortion may be desirable. The important signal processing operation of heterodyning is based on nonlinear mixing of signals to cause intermodulation. Distortion is also used as a musical effect, particularly with electric guitars. / Distortion (or warping) is the alteration of the original shape (or other characteristic) of something, such as an object, image, sound or waveform. It is so-named because the spectrum consists of electromagnetic waves with frequencies higher than those that humans identify as the color violet. These frequencies are invisible to most humans except those with aphakia. Near-UV is visible to a number of insects and birds. / (1) addition of an unwanted component to an electronic signal. |
