Definition of "dithering" |
A common technique to improve digitizing when quantization noise (quantization error/noise) can no longer be treated as random. A small amount of random noise is added to the analog input signal. This added noise causes the digital output to randomly toggle between two adjacent codes, thereby avoiding thresholding effect. / computer technique allowing the display and printing of gray-level images on devices having a small number of available colors (generally two, as in black-andwhite CRTs and printers). |
