Definition of "Eddy Current" |
Induced circulating currents in a conducting material that are caused by a varying magnetic field. The current induced in a conductor subjected to a varying magnetic field. / Localized induced circulating electric currents set up in metal parts not normally meant to carry currents due to changes in electromagnetic fields. Also known as Foucault currents. / Eddy current also called Foucault currents are electric currents induced within conductors by a changing magnetic field in the conductor. These circulating eddies of current have inductance and thus induce magnetic fields. These fields can cause repulsion, attraction, propulsion, drag, and heating effects. / A star network having three branches. Also known as wye connection' Y connection. / (1) a circulating current in magnetic materials that is produced as a result of time-varying flux passing through a metallic magnetic material. |
