Definition of "Farad" |
The basic unit of capacitance. A capacitor has a capacitance of 1 farad when a voltage potential of 1 volt across it produces a charge of 1 coulomb. [Dictionary of Capacitor Terms] / The capacitance value of a capacitor of which there appears a potential difference of one volt when it is charged by a quantity of electricity equal to one coulomb. It is the SI unit of electric capacitance. / The farad is the SI unit of the capacitance of an electrical system, that is, its capacity to store electricity. It is a rather large unit as defined and is more often used as a microfarad. It is named after the English chemist and physicist Michael Faraday. / It is Device which is part of the individual network of tubes, normally consisting of a box and equipment active and passive for interconnection between the collective network or the operator in the case of houses and the individual cable network. In the case of a detached house it establishes the connection between the cables from the Entry Box for Detached Houses and the rest of the cabling of the individual network. / the basic unit of measure in capacitors. A capacitor charged to 1 volt with a charge of 1 coulomb (1 ampere flowing for 1 second) has a capacitance of 1 farad. |
