Definition of "Faraday Rotation" |
The rotation of the plane of polarization of electromagnetic energy when it passes a substance influenced by a magnetic field that has a component in the direction of propagation. / Faraday rotation is a magneto-optical phenomenon, that is, an interaction between light and a magnetic field in a medium. The Faraday effect causes a rotation of the plane of polarization which is linearly proportional to the component of the magnetic field in the direction of propagation. / Any service normally provided for remuneration, at a distance, by electronic means and at the individual request of a recipient of services the full definition of this notion is laid down in Directive 98/34/EC as modified by Directive 98/48/EC. / (1) rotation in the direction of polarization experienced by awave traveling through an anisotropic medium. Important examples of media in which the phenomenon occurs include the earth’s ionosphere and ferrites biased by a static magnetic field. |
