Definition of "Group Delay" |
The delay of a group of frequencies compared to a group of other frequencies; high frequency signals being delayed more than low frequency signals. Group delay results in signal distortion for example when high frequency harmonics are delayed compared to low frequency harmonics. The rate of change of the total phase shift with respect to angular frequency through a device or transmission medium. The derivative of radian phase with respect to radian frequency [Group Delay]. / In signal processing, group delay is a measure of the time delay of the amplitude envelopes of the various sinusoidal components of a signal through a device under test, and is a function of frequency for each component. Phase delay is similar, however it is a measure of the time delay of the phase as opposed to the time delay of the amplitude envelope. / Synchronous serial communication describes a serial communication protocol in which "data is sent in a continuous stream at a constant rate. / the derivative of the radian phase with respect to frequency. |
