Definition of "Latch-Up" |
A unintended condition occurring in an IC by the application of an improper voltage. A circuit condition when the collector voltage of a transistor does not return to the supply voltage as the transistor is switched from saturation to cut-off, remaining in its avalanche region. / A latch-up is a type of short circuit which can occur in an improperly designed integrated circuit. More specifically it is the inadvertent creation of a low-impedance path between the power supply rails of a MOSFET circuit, triggering a parasitic structure which disrupts proper functioning of the part, possibly even leading to its destruction due to overcurrent. A power cycle is required to correct this situation. / Metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor. A field-effect transistor in which there is a thin layer of silicon oxide between the gate and the channel. |
