Definition of "Line" |
A designation of one or more power-carrying conductors for power distribution. The brown (or red) wire is the line conductor, the blue (or black) wire is the neutral, and the green-yellow (or green) wire is the ground. The voltage difference between the line conductor and the neutral is the supply voltage. / A physical medium for transferring electrical or electromagnetic energy from one point to another for purposes of communications. / Refers to the conductor in an overhead or underground distribution or transmission line. / In electrical engineering, a line is, more generally, any circuit or loop of an electrical system. This electric circuit loop or electrical network, consists of electrical elements or components connected directly by conductor terminals to other devices in series. / Line is a Japanese proprietary application for instant messaging on smartphones and personal computers. Line users exchange text messages, graphics, video and audio media, make free VoIP calls, and hold free audio or video conferences. Line, launched in Japan in 2011, reached 100 million users within eighteen months and 200 million users only six months later. / OC-3 is a network line with transmission data rate of up to 155.52 Mbit/s,payload: 148.608 Mbit/s; overhead: 6.912 Mbit/s, including path overhead using fiber optics.
