Definition of "LNA" |
Low noise amplifier. Typical use: The first stage of a satellite receiver. / Low noise amplifier, low voice amplifier / Low noise amplifier is an electronic amplifier used to amplify very weak signals (for example, captured by an antenna). It is usually located close to the detection device to reduce losses in the feedline. This active antenna arrangement is frequently used in microwave systems like GPS, because coaxial cable feedline has high loss at microwave frequencies, e.g. a loss of 10% coming from few meters of cable would cause a 10% degradation of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). / Low noise amplifier is an electronic amplifier used to amplify possibly very weak signals. It is usually located very close to the detection device to reduce losses in the feedline. / Magnetoresistive head technology is used in disk drives to allow higher storage densities than the older inductive-head technology. MR heads provide up to four times the storage densities possible with thin-film inductive heads. Almost all of the major storage vendors now sell drives based on this technology, which started to become popular in the late 1990s. / See low noise amplifier. |
