Definition of "Monolithic IC" |
ICs that are formed completely within a semiconductor substrate. Silicon chips. / Now a days when people say integrated circuit they usually mean a monolithic IC, where the entire circuit is constructed in a single piece of silicon. The fabrication process can be extremely complex, involving many different techniques such as etching, ion implantation, oxidation, deposition of new material, passivation, doping etc. The end result can be a chip containing tens of millions of interconnected transistors. / Originally formed as International telecommunication Satellite Organization, it was from 1964 to 2001 an intergovernmental consortium owning and managing a constellation of communications satellites providing international broadcast services. |
