Definition of "Mutual Inductance" |
The ability of one conductor to induce an emf in a nearby conductor when the current in the first conductor changes. It is the constant of proportionality between the induced voltage in the second inductor and the rate of change of current in the first inductor. / A circuit property existing when the relative position of two inductors causes the magnetic lines of force from one to link with the turns of the other. The symbol for mutual inductance is M. Also refer to Transformer Manufacturers. / In electromagnetism and electronics, mutual inductance is the property of a conductor by which a change in current flowing through it induces a electromotive force in both the conductor self-inductance and in any mutual inductance. / The location from which a teleconference originates. / the property that exists between two current-carrying conductors when the magnetic lines of force from one link with those from another. |
