Definition of "neutral axis" |
The neutral axis is an axis in the cross section of a beam or shaft along which there are no longitudinal stresses or strains. / the axis near which the direction of the velocity of armature conductors is exactly parallel to the magnetic flux lines so that the EMF induced in the conductors is zero. This axis, also referenced as the magnetic neutral axis, shifts in the direction of rotation of the machine as a generator or motor. The amount of shift depends on the armature current and hence on the load of the machine. |
