Definition of "Operational Amplifier" |
[see op amp]. / [Op Amp] An amplifier designed to perform computing or transfer operations and that has the following characteristics: (1) very high gain (2) very high input impedance (3) very low output impedance. / An operational amplifier is a DC-coupled high-gain electronic voltage amplifier with a differential input and, usually, a single-ended output. In this configuration, an op-amp produces an output potential that is typically hundreds of thousands of times larger than the potential difference between its input terminals. / Company that offers communication services, usually to a few corporate customers over land-wire, sea cable, mobile, point-to-point microwave, and/or satellite systems. / (1) a high-gain DC coupled amplifier with a differential input and single-ended output. In nearly all amplifier applications, the op-amp is used with negative feedback (“closed-loop”), so that the closed-loop gain of the amplifier depends primarily on the feedback network components, and not on the op-amp itself. It is widely used as a basic building block in electronic designs. Abbreviated as “op-amp.” |
