Definition of "Optical Isolator" |
[Optoisolator] A device that uses a short optical transmission path to accomplish electrical isolation between elements of a circuit. An Optoelectronic device uses both a light source and a light detector in the same package. Also called an Optical Coupler. / An optical isolator, or optical diode, is an optical component which allows the transmission of light in only one direction. It is typically used to prevent unwanted feedback into an optical oscillator, such as a laser cavity. The operation of the device depends on the Faraday effect, which in turn is produced by magneto-optic effect, which is used in the main component, the Faraday rotator. / The Centronics parallel interface is an older and still widely-used standard I/O interface for connecting printer s and certain other devices to computers. / a unidirectional optical device that only permits the transmission of light in the forward direction. Any reflected light from the output port is blocked by the device from returning to the input port with very high extinction ratio. |
