Definition of "Parasitic Capacitance" |
An unintended capacitance residing between pins of a component or conductors in a circuit. The circuit to the right shows the unwanted parasitic capacitance between the terminals of a transistor amplifier [in red]. Older texts may refer to parasitic capacitance as interelectrode capacitance, as the capacitance between electrodes or terminals of a device [used for tubes or transistors]. In general, parasitic capacitance changes the intended characteristics of a device or circuit, which than has to be compensated for. The example shows a few capacitors, but parasitic capacitance could exist between any nearby component or net in that circuit. / the generally undesirable and not-designed-for capacitance between two conductors in proximity of one another. |
