Definition of "PWM" |
1. A method for using pulse width to encode or modulate a signal. The width of each pulse is a function of the amplitude of the signal. 2. A technique used to modulate the power delivered to a load. In DC-DC switching regulators, the pulse width driving the main power switch (and hence, the duty cycle) is varied to maintain the desired output voltage. In DC motor-control applications, pulse width is used to vary motor speed. / Pulse Width Modulation, / See pulse-width modulation. |
