Definition of "Quantization" |
A process whereby the continuous range of input-signal values is divided into nonoverlapping subranges. Each of these subranges has a discrete value of the output uniquely assigned. Once a signal value falls within a given subrange, the output provides the corresponding discrete value. / A process in which the continuous range of values of an analog signal is sampled and divided into non-overlapping (but not necessarily equal) subranges, and a discrete, unique value is assigned to each subrange. / A process whereby the continuous range of input signal values is divided into non-overlapping sub ranges. Each of these sub ranges has a discrete value of the output uniquely assigned. Once a signal value falls within a given sub range, the output provides the corresponding discrete value. / Quantization, in mathematics and digital signal processing, is the process of mapping a large set of input values to a countable smaller set such as rounding values to some unit of precision. A device or algorithmic function that performs quantization is called a quantizer. The round-off error introduced by quantization is referred to as quantization error. / Persistent is a point-to-point message-passing routine is called repeatedly with the same arguments, persistent communication can be used to avoid redundancy in setting up the message each time it is sent. Persistent communication reduces the overhead of communication between the parallel task and the network adapter, but not the overhead between network adapters on different nodes. / (1) the process of converting amplitude values that can take on many different values (infinitely many for analog signals) into a finite (or more coarse) representation.Quantization is necessary in digital processing of inherently analog signals, such as voice or image. |
