Definition of "snubber" |
A device which suppresses voltage transients. / A snubber is a device used to suppress ("snub") some phenomenon, such as: Voltage transients in electrical systems. Pressure transients in fluid systems. Excess force or rapid movement in mechanical systems. / an auxiliary circuit or circuit elements used to control the rate of rise or fall of the current flowing into a power electronic device or the rate of fall of the voltage across the device during turn-off. Snubbers are used to limit dv/dt and di/dt and eliminate ringing in a switching circuit during switching transients. Both dissipative and nondissipative snubbers are used. |
