Definition of "spreading gain" |
in a spread-spectrum system, the number of dimensions used for transmitting the signal divided by the number of dimensions actually needed if spreading was not used. This is approximately equal to the ratio between the bandwidth after spreading and the bandwidth before spreading. In a BPSK system, it is equal to the number of chips per bit in a direct sequence system. Also called processing gain. |
