Definition of "stochastic sampling" |
a type of sampling that varies the time intervals between samples. Stochastic sampling allows for a signal to be sampled at a lower apparent sampling frequency achieving equal results to a signal sampled at a much higher sampling frequency. The apparent benefits of stochastic sampling are counterbalanced by the fact that the sampling interval, since it is changing, must be recorded in addition to the signal samples, to reconstruct the signal correctly. |
