Definition of "super directivity" |
a condition of a phased array in which the excitation of the array elements is adjusted to obtain a directivity greater than that achievable with uniform excitation. Such antennas are often impractical, because high excitation currents are usually required, leading to ohmic losses that more than offset the additional directivity. Superdirective antennas also typically have high reactive fields and thus exhibit very narrow bandwidth. |
