Definition of "Switching Time" |
The interval of time between when the input of a device switches states and the output of that device switches state [referenced at defined levels]. The switching time may be different for a change from high to low [T-on] or low to high [T-off], and the device may provide an inversion so the output switches from high to low when the input switches from low to high. IC switching time is called propagation delay, in reference to the time it take for the input change to propagate to the output of the device. / For a frequency synthesizer, the switching time or more colloquially the switching speed is the amount of time from when the command for the next frequency is requested until the time that the synthesizer's output becomes usable and meets the specified requirements. / The link layer is the lowest layer in the Internet Protocol Suite, commonly known as TCP/IP, the networking architecture of the Internet. / the time required for an entity to change from one state to another. |
