Definition of "Synchronous Speed" |
A mechanical speed related to the electrical frequency by number of pairs of poles. n = f/p rps = 60f/p rpm. / The speed at which the rotating field in an ac motor revolves. This speed is a function of the number of poles in the field and the frequency of the applied voltage. / The output frequency of an alternator depends on the number of poles and the rotational speed. The speed corresponding to a particular frequency is called the synchronous speed for that frequency. / Speed for an alternating-current machine that is dependent on the frequency of the supply circuit because the rotating member passes one pair of poles for each alternation of the alternating current. / In telecommunication, a master station is a station that controls or coordinates the activities of other stations in the system. Examples: In a data network, the control station may designate a master station to ensure data transfer to one or more slave stations. / speed of the rotating magnetic flux produced by three-phase currents in stationary coils in three-phase AC machines. The synchronous speed is calculated by a knowledge of the number of poles of the machine and the frequency of the stator currents as |
