Definition of "Three Phase" |
Power transmission using three different phases of ac which differ in phase by one third of a cycle or 120 degrees. / Three phase refers to one circuit consisting of three conductors where the current and voltage in each conductor (phase) is 120° out of phase with each other phase. / It Consists of 4 wires and is used in industrial and commercial applications. This system is suitable for installations requiring large motors. It consists of three hot wires and one ground wire. The voltage in each hot wire is out of phase with the others by 1/3 of a cycle, as if produced by 3 different generators. |
