Definition of "Wavefront" |
A small section of an expanding sphere of electromagnetic radiation that is perpendicular to the direction of travel of the energy. / Portion of the wave from zero to peak value. Wavefront is sometimes defined as the extrapolated time based on 30% and 90% of peak value. / In physics, a wavefront is the locus of points having the same phase: a line or curve in 2d, or a surface for a wave propagating in 3d. Since infrared, optical, x-ray and gamma-ray frequencies are so high, the temporal component of electromagnetic waves is usually ignored at these wavelengths, and it is only the phase of the spatial oscillation that is described. / Fiber to the Curb refers to the installation and use of optical fiber cable directly to the curbs near homes or any business environment as a replacement for plain old telephone service. / front of a wave; often a surface of constant phase. |
