What is the difference between Electro-magnetic and electro-mechanical transients?
Although they both are inter-related. There is a slight difference between them
1) Electro-magnetic transients are those due to which distortion occurs in voltage and current due to switching of loads, swithing of capacitor banks, on/off of TX lines etx. They are normally restricted to events occuring in Transmission and distribution phase
2) Electro-Mechanical transients are those which occurs in both Mechanical and electrical system. Such as, when a major load rejection occurs, generator speed will increases and there will be a slight mis-match between mechanical power supplied to a generator and power produced by it. An imbalance will occur between mechanical & electrical system of generator and transients will be introduce in it.
