Plate girder :- When the span is large and load is heavy, rolled steel beams become insufficient to furnish the requirements and built up beams became uneconomical, then plate girders are used. Plate girders are deep structural members subjected to transverse loads. They are nothing but built up beams. They consist of plates and angles riveted together. Plates and angles form are I-section. They are used in building constructions and also in bridges. The plate girders are economically used for spans from 15 m to 30 m. The plate girders have been used for spans upto 40 m | |
