Riveted connections A small piece of round steel forged in place to connect two or more than two steel members together is known as rivet. It consists of one head and body. The body is named as shank. Riveted joints The riveted joints are classified as : - 1. Lap joints : In this the members to be connected together are made to overlap each other and then connected by riveting. 2. Butt joints : In this the members butt against each other and an over plate is used which is fastened to the main members by riveting. Design of riveted joints :- 1. Minimum pitch : The distance between centers of rivet holes should not be less than 2.5 times the diameter of the holes. 2. Maximum pitch : The distance between centers of any two adjacent rivets connecting together elements of compression and tension members should not exceed 32 t or 300 mm whichever is less where t = thickness of the thinner outside plate. | |
