Rocks are divided into three types
1. Igneous rocks : These are formed due to solidification of molten materials. These rocks are hard, tough, dense, strong and durable. These rocks may be (a) basic rocks containing less than 52% silica (b) acidic rocks containing, more than 65% silica. 2. Sedimentary rocks : These are formed sediments through the agency of water, wind and glacier. Important of these rocks are sandstone, limestone, shale and laterite. 3. Metamorphic rocks : These are the secondary rocks formed by metamorphosis due to intense heat and pressure below the earth's crust. | |
