Advantages :

• It is self starting.
• The set is simple to operate and is reliable.
• It has sufficiently high power factor.
• It permits wide regulation in D.C. voltage.
• It can be operated on any frequency.
• It can be operated at high voltages.

Disadvantages :

• Because of its low speed, it is more expensive and hence it is not
• It is possible to obtain D.C. voltage upto 1700-2000 V.
