Advantages :
It is self starting.
The set is simple to operate and is reliable.
It has sufficiently high power factor.
It permits wide regulation in D.C. voltage.
It can be operated on any frequency.
It can be operated at high voltages.
Disadvantages :
Because of its low speed, it is more expensive and hence it is not
It is possible to obtain D.C. voltage upto 1700-2000 V.
