Range extension. In voltmeters, the operating coil is of fine wire, a non-inductive resistance R being connected in series with it. In ammeters, the coil is comparatively of thick wire. A voltmeter is connected in the circuit either directly or through a potential transformer depending upon the voltage to be measured. An ammeter is connected directly in the circuit for cun-ents upto 10 A provided the circuit voltage does not exceed 650 V. Beyond that it is usual to employ a current transformer. | |
