Unit of Force The SI unit of force is newton (N). A newton is defined as that force which, when applied to a mass of 1 kg, gives an acceleration of 1 m/s2. F (newtons) = m (kilograms) x a (metres/second)2 ...........(1) The weight of a body is the product of its mass (m) and the acceleration due to earth's gravity (g). The acceleration due to earth's gravity (g) is different at different latitudes and varies from 9.73 m/s2 at the equator to 9.83 m/s2 at the poles. | |
