A companding algorithm used in digital communications systems. Refer to the telcom section for A-Law IC Functions. A standard compression algorithm, used in digital communications systems of the European digital hierarchy, to optimize, or modify, the dynamic range of an analog signal for digitizing. / A-Law is the standard codec compression/decompression algorithm for pulse code modulation from the ITU-T the Telecommunication Standardization Sector of the International telecommunication Union. A-Law is the type of PCM used in most of the world. The other type, mu-Law, is used in the United States and Japan. / Ammeter is a measuring instrument used to measure the electric current in a circuit. Electric currents are measured in amperes 'A', hence the name. Instruments used to measure smaller currents, in the milliampere or microampere range, are designated as milliammeters or microammeters. |
