Definition of "Aspect Ratio" |
The ratio between the width of an object and the height of the object. The 4:3 aspect ratio of a traditional TV or monitor or the 16:9 aspect ration for newer monitors. / The aspect ratio of an image describes the proportional relationship between its width and its height. / The relationship in a tire or wheel between the distance from the rim to the tread (section height) and the tire's width. Thus, in a P185/80R13 tire, 80 is the aspect ratio, showing the height is 80% of the width. A lower aspect ratio describes a shorter, wider tire. In a wing, it is the relationship of its span (horizontal length) to its chord (height).
