Definition of "base address" |
An address that serves as a reference point for other addresses. For example, a base address could indicate the beginning of a program. The address of every instruction in the program could then be specified by adding an offset to the base address. For example, the address of the fifth instruction would be the base address plus 5. / (1) an address to which an index or displacement is added to locate the desired information. The base address may be the start of an array or data structure, the start of a data buffer, the start of page in memory, etc. |
